Asahimas History
Asahi Glass Co. Ltd (AGC Inc.) the world's foremost glass producer was founded by Mr. Toshiya Iwasaki and determine to take on the challenge of domestic flat glass production in the 1900s.
The Search commenced for a new plant site could offer convenient water transportation and room to expand. In the end, Amagasaki, Hyogo, was selected as the location for the new plant. The land acquired in August 1907 become the site of Amagasaki Plant, where Asahi Glass Born.
In 1970s AGC Inc. which was searching for a new overseas production base after Thailand, jointly establishment PT Asahimas Flat Glass a Foreign Investment Company with PT Rodamas which was established by trade merchant Mr. Tan Siong Kie. PT Rodamas is a leading Indonesian private business group that has interest in industrial and consumer products. The idea to merge Asahi Glass' technical expertise along with the technology and Rodamas' strong grasp of the local market is a good strategic of partnership that makes Asahimas the glass pioneer in this country.
Asahimas commenced its glass manufacturing in April 1973, from simple clear glass produced using the traditional Fourcault Process. Furthermore, its product line was quickly developed to include new, innovative products such as Specialty Glass, Safety Glass, Reflective Glass and Mirror. In 1975 the Company first began construction of its Safety Glass factory and immediately began the commercial production using Tempering Process in 1976. In the same year, Asahimas also built the 2nd Furnace for Flat Glass in Jakarta and start on its commercial production in 1977. In 1981, Asahimas introduced the Float Glass technology in its new, 3rd Furnace in Jakarta, which was the Company's 1st Float Line. In the mean time, Asahimas closed its 2nd Furnace using the Fourcault Process in the year 1983. In 1985 Asahimas also began construction of its 4th Furnace (2nd Float Line) in Surabaya factory, which would later begin commercial production in 1987. The Company then built its 5th Furnace (3rd Float Line) and 6th Furnace (4th Float Line) in 1990 and 1996, which started its commercial operation in 1993 and 1997 respectively. The former Furnaces are located in Jakarta, while the latter in Surabaya.
The year 1985, was also an essential year for the Safety Glass ensuing the introduction of the new Safety Glass laminating process. As a follow-up action to this new technology, Asahimas then began construction of new Laminated Glass production line in 1994, which is the same year with the closing of the 1st Furnace using the Fourcault Process. During 1997, Asahimas started the first phase in development of its Safety Glass factory in Bukit Indah Industrial Park, Cikampek, West Java, which later commence its commercial production in 1999.
These days, Asahimas increases an aggregate installed production capacity of 720,000 tons for Flat Glass, 5,800,000 square meters for Automotive Glass and 6,800,000 square meters for mirror. This large number of annual capacity ranks Asahimas not only as the largest glass manufacturer in Indonesia but also in Southeast Asia.

1971 - 1980
1971 - Establishment of the Company
PT Asahimas Flat Glass Co. Ltd. Was established as a joint venture company between Asahi Glass Co. Ltd Japan as the largest glass manufacturer in the world and PT. Rodamas Co. Ltd, as the largest distributor of glass and related customer goods in Indonesia.
1973 - Indonesia Pioneer of Sheet Glass Manufacture
PT Asahimas Introduce the 1st traditional Fourcault process in Ancol Factory to suffice glass demand in local market and minimize dependency on imported glass. Subsequently, 2nd Fourcault furnace was built on 1976.
1975 - Establishment of Automotive Glass Manufacture
The company was also the pioneer of safety automotive glass manufacture in Indonesia, and generated business as the main supplier of windshields for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) markets.
1980 - Factory Expansion
The company reclaimed coastal land from North Jakarta Bay in order for expansion of its facilities.
1981 - 1990
1983 - Applying Float Process Glass Technology
With the high technology glass manufacture supported by AGC Japan, the company applied float process Glass technology which is the first in ASEAN Expansion of Furnace Capacity. In line with the economic growth, the company expand the capacity of flat glass to support Indonesia’s economic growth and penetrate overseas market.
1984 - Footsteps into Automotive Laminated Glass
The company has met the requirements of automotive glass manufacturers to supply laminated glass for the automotive industry.
1986 - Starting Mirror Glass Production
The company introduced high quality, durable and distortion-free mirrors.
1987 - New Flat Glass Factory in Sidoarjo
A new factory (formerly PT. Purnomo Sejati Industrial) was established in Sidoarjo in order to strengthen the company’s share of the domestic market.
1991 - 2010
1995 - Go Public
The company listed its shares on the Jakarta and Surabaya Stock Exchange (today the Indonesia Stock Exchange) on November 8, 1995.
1997 - Automotive Glass Factory Expansion
In line with incremental automotive demand, a new factory was established in Cikampek, West Java, to expand production capacity while securing location closer to OEM customers.
1997 - Standard Accreditation
Recognition of Asahimas’s quality management by International standard.
Stopsol – On line Reflective Glass Production.
The 1st international-branded reflective glass was introduced to meet market requirements for high-performance glass.
2006 - High Performance Automotive Glass
Breakthrough technology for automotive glass that provide more privacy and significantly reduce UV and Heat transmittance.
2009 - Sunergy - On-line Solar Control Low-E Production
Applying the latest superb energy saving CVD coating technology to fulfill the demand for ‘green’ buildings.

2011 - Lacobel - Painted Glass
Well-known international brand for painted glass, to expand interior applications for glass.
2012 - Start Planibel G & Goldfish production

2016 - Raindown, Sunergy Sigma & New Stopsol
Launch Raindown, Sunergy Sigma, New Stopsol & Built 7th furnace in Cikampek.
